Eating A High Protein Diet For Weight Loss

A few years ago I decided to give the P90X system a go.

For those who haven’t heard of it, P90X is a grueling 90 day high intensity workout program.

To be honest I didn’t like it that much because it almost worked too well. The workouts were so tough they would make me feel run down and exhausted.

Now it’s a few years later and I’m in better shape I think I may be able to hang in there with the program but don’t plan on doing it again any time soon.

One thing I did take away from it is the nutritional information.

In the first phase of P90X in order to burn fat fast you go on a high protein diet for a month. It’s called the “Fat Shredder”.

You basically eat;

  • 50% protein
  • 30% carbs
  • 20% fat

A good way to track you calories and macro-nutrient percentages is with

Good Sources Of Protein

There are hundreds of foods that contain protein in them. Here are some foods that are very high in protein.

  • Chicken
  • Turkey
  • Tuna
  • Fish
  • Steak
  • Eggs (Also high in fat).
  • Whey protein.

Whey protein is a supplement that comes in powder form. It’s fast digesting so great as a post workout meal. It also comes in many different flavors.

Low Energy

One thing you will find when you go on a high protein diet is that your energy will run lower. This is because we get most of our energy from carbohydrates so eating a low carb, high protein diet plus exercising is great for burning fat but you will notice you have less energy.

This is why it’s not a good idea to do this sort of diet for longer than a month.

Will I Get All Muscly On This Diet

If you’re reading this as a woman you may be worried about getting big and muscly because of all the protein. Well don’t worry because you likely wont.

You will burn fat and tone up which may show off more of the muscle you already have but in order to gain muscle you usually have to go on a calorie surplus to build it.

Tracking Your Calories

I mention MyFitnessPal earlier. It really is a brilliant site.

You can plan what you are going to eat for the entire day to match your 50,30,20 plan. It has all the foods listed, all you need to do is select how much of a food to eat and it will tell you how many calories and what percentage of the food is protein, carbs and fat.

I think I’ll write a post about using soon.

So if you’re looking for diet to help you burn fat fast then a high protein diet combined with a good workout routine will bring fast results.

My Wartrol Review & Results

wartrol-reviewA few months ago one of my readers asked me if I knew anything about a product called Wartrol.

At the time I knew nothing about this product but since then I’ve studied everything about it and have tested it on myself and some willing subjects.

Contents of this Wartrol review.

Note: You can skip to any part of this review by clicking the content links below.

My Results

First let’s start with a picture. They say it speaks a thousand words.

As you can see the result of using Wartrol on myself was very effective. After just 14 days the wart was almost half the size.

By day 23 the wart was completely gone apart from a small mark.

And by day 28 the mark had gone too.

To say I am impressed is an understatement.

Getting rid of warts usually takes a long time as they can be stubborn little critters. Most remedies or over the counter medicines you’ll find to get rid of warts usually take months to work, if at all.

Wartrol worked great on me but I wanted to see if it worked as well on others.

Luckily for me it didn’t take long to find a couple of people with warts who were willing to help me with my test.

So enter my test subjects, Jane and Bill.

Jane had a wart on her thumb and Bill had one on his elbow.

Here Are Janes Results..

As you can see Janes wart took a little longer than mine to clear up but the Wartrol was still very effective and the wart was almost completely gone in just over a month.

Here Are Bills Results.

Wartrol worked great on Bill too, his wart cleared up in just 3 weeks.

How To Use Wartrol

It’s actually very simple to use. The solution comes in a small bottle with a little brush. Here’s how I used Wartrol..

  1. First clean the wart area with an antiseptic. I use and recommend Savlon or TCP.
  2. Dip the brush into the Wartrol solution and apply a small amount to cover the wart.
  3. Wait for the solution to air dry completely and sink into the wart. (around 20 minutes)
  4.  Cover the wart with a plaster.

Do this once a day every morning until the wart is gone.

Note: for faster results apply twice a day in the morning and evening. Most days I just applied Wartrol in the morning but a few days I also applied it before bed time.

How does Wartrol work?

The main ingredient in Wartrol is Salicylic Acid 17%, a very effective ingredient for getting rid of warts. The Wartrol solution works by soaking into the wart and thinning it layer by layer, essentially dissolving the wart.

What types of warts will Wartrol work on?

Wartrol gets rid of common warts and Plantar warts found on the bottom of the foot. It will not work on genital warts.

How much Wartrol do you need?

If you just have one wart then I recommend buying one bottle and when that bottle is running out you can then decide if you need to buy another.

If you have several warts then you will need to buy a bottle for each wart. So if you have 3 warts then you should be able to get rid of them with between 3-6 bottles of Wartrol depending on how fast it works for you.

Should you buy Wartrol?

There are many different ways of getting rid of warts. The fastest are surgery and freezing with liquid nitrogen which can both be painful and expensive.

This is an example of a wart frozen with liquid nitrogen.

Pretty bad right? It’s painful and I don’t recommend it.

The fastest ways to get rid of a wart are;

  • Speak with your doctor and schedule a time to get the wart surgically removed.
  • Or speak to a dermatologist to get the wart frozen with liquid nitrogen.

However if you are looking for a fast way go get rid of your warts at home with no pain then I recommend you buy some Wartrol. It’s not as fast as surgery or liquid nitrogen freezing but it’s the next best thing.

Running For Weight Loss – Why I Love Running

So lately I’ve been waking up extra early to go for a run before work. I’m a nurse by the way.

I’m trying to lose a bit of weight and running just happens to be one of the easiest ways to exercise.

All you need is some trainers and the outdoors. Pure and simple.

I both love and slightly hate running though.

I love it because I get to run just as the sun is rising and the fresh air helps wake me up. It’s glorious.

I hate it because sometimes it can really wear me out.

Sometimes my runs leave me feeling energized and ready for the day and sometimes they leave me feeling knackered and drained.

So because of this I now only run every other day to give myself some time to recover.

Plus there is such a thing as chronic cardio. It’s not good to just do cardio. I also do resistance workouts with weights.

Yes, girls can lift weights too!

In my opinion resistance workouts are the best ways to burn fat. Which is why I do both resistance training and running. You just need a good balance of both.

My runs usually go on for about 3-5 miles. That may seem a lot for some but it’s actually not that much. It’s very doable for someone with average fitness.

The essentials for a good run are;

  • Good comfortable trainers.
  • A small bottle of water.
  • Some music.

Comfortable trainers are a must. Blisters hurt and can put you out of running for a week.

Water is a must when you go for a run. You don’t want to be dragging along a massive bottle so take a small bottle with you to keep hydrated.

If you have to cross lots of roads then you should be very careful if you are listening to music. Many people get run over and killed all around the world every year because they aren’t paying attention when they cross the road.

Don’t let this happen to you!

Also if you run when it is dark wear a high visibility jacket.

Running Outdoors VS The Treadmill

I have a treadmill. In the past I would never run outside. If I felt like running I would just hop on the treadmill.

But now I’ve started running outdoors I don’t think I’ll ever go back to the treadmill. Unless the weather is horrible outside.

Personally I get no joy from the treadmill. It’s just a way to exercise, plain and simple.

But running outdoors is something that is actually enjoyable. For a start you can do it with friends. There’s also more to look at. There’s the fresh air. It’s just an overall a more enjoyable experience.

Some of you reading this may be self conscious about running outside where everyone can see you.

To counter this you can run early in the morning or in the evening. I rarely see many people when I go for my early morning runs.

But at the end of the day my advice is to not care about other people seeing you run. They wont be thinking anything bad about you, in fact they’ll probably be impressed to see someone making an effort to lose weight.

By running you can inspire other people to exercise! So try not to be so self conscious about exercising outdoors!

If you’ve not tried running outdoors then what are you waiting for. Put on your trainers and give it a go. But don’t blame me if your treadmill starts to gather dust because you may just grow to love your outdoors runs. :-)

Thanks for reading.

2 Fitness Tips For Weight Loss

When it comes to losing weight the key is to focus on both proper nutrition and exercise. In this post I’m going to give you a few fitness tips for weight loss to help you get fit quicker and help you lose weight.

Do Cardio First Thing In The Morning

As soon as I wake up in the morning I always have a glass of water and then do 15-20 minutes of cardio. I spend 5 minutes doing light cardio where my heart rate is around 150 beats per minute and then 10-15 minutes of more intense cardio where my heart rate is usually around 170-180 and then spend a few minutes warming down.

Doing cardio like this first thing in the morning helps to burn off some of your fat reserves because you haven’t eaten you body will quickly burn off the stored glycogen and then get to your fat reserves. The reason that I only do 15-20 minutes is because I don’t want to burn myself out for the day.

After I’ve showered I’ll then have a smoothie with a couple of scoops of protein. I have blueberries, raspberries and a banana in my smoothie which helps give me a boost of energy from the fast acting carbs in the fruit.

Doing this helps to wake me up and get me energized for the day. 15 minutes of cardio first thing in the morning is great for burning fat.

Exercise Regularly

It’s vital if you want to get fit and lose weight that you exercise pretty much every day. Many people miss one day of exercise and then fall out of their routine so that one day turns in to two days and before thay know it they haven’t exercised in a month and they wonder why they haven’t lost any weight.

Weight lifting and resistance workouts are fantastic for burning fat. Some people like to do cardio one day and lift weights the next day. This gives your muscles 48 hours to repair before you lift weights again. This is a solid plan and something you could stick to.

Use these fitness tips for weight loss along with proper nutrition and you should see results in no time.

Thanks for reading.

20 Weight Loss Tips To Help You Lose Weight

1. Eat More Spicy Food

Spicy food is known to help boost your metabolism which is good for weight loss. You may have heard that it takes around 15-20 minutes before our brain recognizes that we have eaten, well the good thing about spicy food is that we generally tend to eat it slower so by the time you have finished your meal you will start to feel full and wont feel the need to go and find a snack!

2. Set Realistic Weight Loss Goals

Be realistic. If your goal is to lose 50 pounds and you want to do it by next month then you’re going to be disappointed and set yourself  up for failure. Most experts say it’s healthy to aim to lose 1-2 pounds per week. So if you goal is to lose 50 pounds then a realistic goal is around 6 months.

 3. Eat At Home More

People that eat out regularly are statistically more likely to be overweight. When we eat out we tend to eat more than we normally would and we eat foods that we know we shouldn’t really be eating but it’s a treat because we came out to have a good time right? That’s Ok now and again but I recommend that you eat at home so you can control what you eat and see how many calories you are taking in. It’s healthier this way.

4. Walk More

It’s just to easy to get in the car and drive everywhere but it’s much healthier to walk instead of drive. A five minute walk to the shops is better than nothing! Personally I love putting my headphones on and going for a walk and getting some fresh air.

5. Take The Stairs

So you come to a crossroads, do you take the stairs or the elevator? You take the stairs of course! When it comes to losing weight every little helps and just taking that extra 20 seconds to walk up the stairs instead of taking the elevator will go a long way in helping you to lose weight.

6. Get On Your Bike

Did you know that 40% of the Dutch people ride their bikes to work! You can actually burn 400-500 calories per hour by riding a bike.

7. Exercise Every Day

Yes everyday. Get yourself into the habit of doing some form of exercise for 30-60 minutes per day. Anything that gets your heart rate up and some sweat pouring will do you good. People who routinely exercise every day are less likely to be overweight. One tip I can give you here is don’t be lazy about it, be consistent because if you miss one day of exercise then you’ll likely fall out of the routine and give up on exercising all together. So put in some effort and exercise daily.

8. 15 Minutes Of Cardio First Thing In The Morning

Something that I love to do as soon as I’m up and out of bed is 15 minutes of Cardio. This is a great way to burn fat because you haven’t eaten yet so your body will burn more fat instead of burning up stored energy that you would be burning had you eaten first. I recommend a treadmill or get yourself a heart rate monitor watch and then do jumping jacks etc to get your heart rate up for 15 minutes. I also find that doing 15 minutes of cardio first thing helps me wake up and gets me energized.

9. Eat Breakfast

Many people trying to lose weight think it’s a good idea to skip breakfast altogether. This is not a good idea. Skipping breakfast can slow down your metabolism. Plus you will get hungry mid morning and when you haven’t eaten a wholesome breakfast that chocolate bar looks very tempting. So eat a good healthy breakfast full of fiber and fruit to kick off your day.

10. Drink More Water

Water is natures very own appetite suppressant. Sometimes what we mistake for hunger is actually thirst so the next time you’re feeling hungry drink a glass of water. You can also cut down on your meal portion sizes by drinking a glass of water before meals so you feel less hungry and don’t need to eat more.

11. Find A Partner

If you can find someone who also wants to lose weight then partnering up with them is a great idea. This way you have someone to talk to, share strategies with and someone to pick you up if you’re struggling. Just make sure that your partner is equally as motivated as you otherwise if you’re partner gives up easily that wont do you any good.

12. Clean Out Your Cupboards

Get rid of all the junk food and unhealthy stuff from your fridge and cupboards. Toffee pop corn and ice cream are no good for you and if you’re trying to lose weight then just get rid of them.

13. Make Your Portions Smaller And Eat Slower

You may have heard that it takes 20 minutes or so for your stomach to recognize that you have eaten so one thing that you can do is put less food on your plate and eat slower. Make you meal last at least 20 minutes so you’ll start to feel full by the end of it.

14. Get A Hobby

Many of us eat when we get bored. A great way to be less bored is to get a hobby or something to occupy our time more so we think about food less. And watching tv does not count as a hobby, in fact watching tv is something we do when we’re bored and causes us to snack so put down the control and find something to do!

15. Get Your Family Eating Healthy

If you’re a parent or you have a family to cook for then it can be frustrating having to cook a healthy meal for yourself and then cooking whatever the rest of the family wants so why not try and get the whole family eating healthy and just cooking one meal for all!

16. Create Your Own Menu

Write down some healthy meals that you enjoy and their ingredients and how to make them. This way whenever you’re think about what to eat for dinner you can check your menu for some ideas.

17. Cut Down On Your Liquid Calories

When people are trying to lose weight and they’re counting calories they often forget that drinks have calories in them too. So cut down on sugary drinks such as Coke, sports drinks, beer because they’re all high in calories. I recommend green tea or water. You can flavor your water with lemon, lime or mint.

18. Don’t Eat Too Late

Don’t eat a few hours before bed time. You don’t need that extra energy so there’s no need to eat.

19. Get A Good Nights Sleep

Studies have shown that people with bad sleep patterns are more likely to be over weight so try to get to sleep at the same time every night. Taking a 30-40 minute nap in the afternoon is also good for your body and will help you feel more energetic which will lead to less snacking.

20. Be Patient

Just remember that weight loss takes time. Don’t give up. Keep on counting calories and exercising daily and you’ll see results soon enough.

Good luck and I hope you found these weight loss tips helpful!

How Forgetting To Count Calories Can Prevent You From Losing Weight!

The following post is all about the calories that we don’t count when we are trying to lose weight. Many of us count calories on a diet and we try to note down all the things that we eat and their calories however some of us seem to forget that drinks also have calories too and they don’t count them.

This can cause you to not lose weight and even gain weight if you’re not careful.

When we are on a diet, we count intake of calories constantly. Noodles 200, salad 50 and pastry, we don’t even want to get there. However, there are certain calories that we forget to consider. These are the things that we eat or drink out of habit. Your meals are not the only aspect of your diet. The biggest diet mistake we make is that we only alter our meals, but do not change our lifestyle accordingly. This is one of the prime reasons for not losing weight in spite of dieting.

If you are failing to lose weight despite repeated efforts then check out if you have forgotten to count these calories that you consume.

Calories That We Don’t Count:

Just Another Cup Of Coffee: We drink coffee and tea out of habit. This is especially true when we are in office and trying to get some work done. Your morning cup of coffee or the numerous cups of tea you devour during the day does not count in your diet. You would be shocked to know that a single cup of coffee with sugar and milk has at least 100 calories in it. You could have eaten a piece of chocolate to compensate for it.

Cheers To That: Alcohol is not food according to you. But, who says you have to eat only ‘food’ to become fat? Your weekend parties might be a cause for your weight gain. You must surely be aware that Vodka is one of the most fattening alcoholic drinks. Even if you skin it, a pint of beer will make your 60 minutes of workout worthless.

Fruits Are Healthy: Well yes, but they also have a lot of calories. If you are trying to justify your fetish for mangoes by stating its health benefits, then you can kiss your weight loss dreams good bye. Some fruits like mangoes, grapes etc. are really fattening. If you want to be slim, you have to avoid them.

Its A Diet Soda After All: So I am going to gulp down a dozen in 2 days! Sometimes we become really irrational when we are on diet. Diet sodas and artificial diet sweeteners have lesser calories for sure but doesn’t mean you can binge on them. If you are going to have 4 diet sodas instead of one normal soda, then you will surely count extra calories on it. It is one of the stupidest diet mistakes.

Switch On The AC: The air conditioner is one of biggest reason for putting on weight. Your body has an equilibrium temperature. If it is too hot it will release energy and cool down, and if it is cold it will burn calories to heat up. But if you are constantly at 24 degree Celsius then your body will become lazy, just like you. You forget to count the calories that were to be lost in a very natural way.

Just avoiding conventionally unhealthy snacks will not help you get in shape. You will have to learn to count calories in a smarter way….

This post was from

One point I think we should all remember from the post above is that although fruit is good for us and we should all eat our fair share of it, most fruits are also quite high in calories. So don’t think to yourself  “fruit is healthy so I wont count those calories” because they can still prevent you from losing weight if you’re not careful!

Working Out While Sick – Is It Safe?

We all hate being sick. Especially when it interferes with our life. Last night before I went to bed I felt a little bit under the weather. Well I woke up this morning to find that I have the flu. This got me wondering if it’s OK to workout or exercise while I’m sick so I started doing some research and I learned something interesting.

If you just have a cold or a runny nose then it’s probably OK to do some exercise but if you have the flu then it’s not a good idea to exercise because you can harm yourself and slow down your recovery meaning you’ll be sick for longer.

A good tip that I discovered was that if your symptoms are above the neck such as runny nose, congestion etc then you’re probably OK to workout but if the symptoms are below the neck such as coughing, fever, aches or fatigue then you should not workout until you’re feeling better.

Regular exercise is known to help boost your immune system but intense workouts every days is known to actually lower your immune system so if you’re someone who trains like an athlete for 90 minutes per day then you could be damaging your immune system and will get sick easier.

So if your symptoms are above the neck you may be OK to workout but if you’re sick below the neck or have a fever like I do right now then give yourself a break and time to recover!

If your symptoms are more serious then go and see a Doctor right away!

My Honest Review Of The Eat Stop Eat Program By Brad Pilon

This is version 2 of my Eat Stop Eat review. If you read my last review you’ll know that I didn’t like Eat Stop Eat and pretty much and thought it wouldn’t work.

This is because I read elsewhere that it’s wrong not to eat and if you go without eating your body will go into starvation mode and you’ll gain weight when you start eating again.

eat stop eat reviewWell to put it bluntly I was completely wrong.

Since writing the first review I have re-read the Eat Stop Eat pdf and decided to really give it a go.

I’ve been having wonderful results and have completely changed my mind about Eat Stop Eat. It has kind of become a way of life for me now and is something I can see myself doing for a long time to come.

One problem I do have with Eat Stop Eat is that it’s not very easy to follow. The guide is full of information on why fasting works an why you should do it but when you come to the end of reading it you’ll probably be left asking yourself what to do next. It would be helpful if there were some simple step by step routines to follow so you could get started right away.

Well I’ve come up with a solution to this and I’ll get to it in a minute.

First off let me just explain what Eat Stop Eat is..

Simply put E.S.E is a book written by Brad Pilon that recommends taking a break from eating for 24 hours once or twice per week. This is called intermittent fasting. You simply choose 2 days per week where you wont be eating. You never fast for longer than 24 hours.

The reason for fasting is to reduce calories to help lose weight. By fasting for 24 hours twice a week we are reducing our calories by over 20%.

You may be wondering what it’s like to fast and not eat for 24 hours…

.. Well it’s actually quite easy if you do it the right way which is explained in the book.

One thing I have noticed while I’ve been fasting is that I have more energy when I’m fasting. It’s strange but it appears it’s not just me because I’ve read some other comments on the net from people saying the same thing.

If you want to really see great results then you can exercise while fasting to lose weight quicker. I find that exercising while fasting is much more effective.

When you put fasting and a consistent exercise routine together you have a recipe for success. The fat really does seem to melt off quickly.

But there is something wrong with Eat Stop Eat!

I believe it’s a brilliant way to lose weight and improve your health but I also believe there’s something missing. It would be so much better if there was a routine or step by step guide at the end telling you exactly what to do to lose weight and get the best results.

Right now the E.S.E guide mainly focuses on why fasting works so well and why you should do it. Don’t get me wrong it does tell you how to do it but what we really want is to be told step by step exactly what to do to get the best results fast. Right?

Because this is missing from Eat Stop Eat I’ve decided to write a step by step guide for every-one who wants to get the best results possible with Eat Stop Eat.

I call it the Eat Stop Eat Blueprint.

Inside I’ll share with you my personal routine I have been following that has helped me to lose over 10 pounds within the past 5-6 weeks following the E.S.E principals. I’ve even included a second routine that my friend has been using and has lost over 20 pounds in about 2 months. (This routine requires dedication but the results are amazing!). If you are very overweight then routine 2 will help you lose a lot of weight fast.

If you follow my step by step routines then you will lose weight fast and in a way that will make you look and feel great.

I’m not charging for it though!

All you need to do is order Eat Stop Eat through the link below and forward your receipt to and I’ll send it to you the same day.

Order Eat Stop Eat through this link to get my Eat Stop Eat Blueprint free. >>

After you have purchased E.S.E simply forward your receipt to and I will verify your order and send you the Eat Stop Eat blueprint within 24 hours and probably much sooner.

Why Water Is Such An Important Aid In Weight Loss

Who would have thought plain, old simple water played a key role in your weight loss program. However, more and more experiments and studies reveal that this tasteless liquid helps in losing those extra pounds in more ways than one. So, besides its critically important role in the proliferation of life on earth, water helps to reduce your intake of calories, help your muscles to function better, enhance digestion and much more.

The age old saying of eight glasses of water per day may or may not hold much water, but you do require ingesting a maximum of 7 liters of water every day to keep off dehydration. A major part of this amount of water is ingested with food cooked in water. However, the exact amount of drinking water necessary for anyone depends on certain factors like the weather, activity level of the person, humidity, diet, etc.

Now, we all know that as soon as you start a diet program you shed some initial weight. But did you know that weight is actually water from your body? So it becomes vitally important to drink sufficient water even when trying to reduce weight. And as weight reduction naturally means burning of excess calories in your body, the process slows down or gathers momentum in relation to your water intake; dehydration causes it to reduce and slacken down.

Dieting or weight loss programs automatically burn calories, which in turn leave a lot of toxic waste inside your body. These toxins need to be flushed out as soon as possible and it can be done only with the help of water, so you must drink enough water to flush and replete the fluid loss.

A normal and healthy blood flow ensures regular supply of oxygen to the different parts of the body, including your muscles. However, dehydration constricts the flow of oxygenated blood to your muscles, affecting their function and making you feel weak and tired. Sufficient amount of water inside your system also helps your muscles and joints to function smoothly due to the natural lubrication, which is important for weight loss exercises; so drink enough water as you diet to make it more effective.

Any good weight loss diet includes a lot of fibrous food to give you nutrition and allow good bowel movement. However, lack of water or dehydration has an opposite effect on your digestive system as it makes you constipated, instead of making it easier. So drink enough water to help your stomach relieve itself and make you feel lighter. It has also been found to be true that if you drink a glass or two of water before sitting down for a meal can reduce your hunger. The water makes you feel heavy and your cravings for that calorie-rich food become less, so you eat less than what you may have done normally.

To avoid dehydration you should drink ahead like before going out in the sun, or commencing your workout. Sip on plain water frequently through the day, especially in warm and humid weather; this can also help you not to overdo it and cause health hazards. Excessive water dilutes the electrolytes in your body and adversely affects the functions of your brain, heart and muscles.

That brings us to the question as to how much water must you drink in a day? To keep healthy and avoid dehydration, drink water along with your alcoholic drinks, drink water before and during your meals, drink plain water more than diuretic drinks which flush out water from your body. Finally, drinking two glasses of water first thing in the morning cleans your system and flushes out the overnight toxins.
